Sidney Gicheru, M.D.
Dr. Gicheru is a skilled and experienced Ophthalmologist (Eye Surgeon and Physician). He is American Board of Ophthalmology certified. He has specialized in LASIK and Lens based Vision Correction Surgery since 2000. He has a wide array of experience with LASIK, PRK, IntraLASIK and Refractive Cataract surgery. He is one of few Dallas-area LASIK surgeons who has had LASIK performed on his own eyes.
Dr. Gicheru has had a long and distinguished career. He founded LaserCare Eye Center in 2000. He is a 2012 graduate of the Leadership Development Program of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He has been a leader in many Ophthalmology institutions. He is a Past President of the Texas Ophthalmological Association and a Board member of OPHTHPAC.
Dr. Gicheru received his undergraduate degree in both Electrical Engineering and Pre-Medical studies from Southern Methodist University. He obtained his Medical degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School. Thereafter he completed his Medical Internship at the prestigious Beth Israel Hospital/Harvard Medical School program. He went on to complete his Ophthalmology Residency at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas.
Dr. Gicheru has a love of teaching and helping the underserved. Every year, he volunteers his time to teach both U.S. and International Ophthalmologists-in-training. He has given lectures all over the U.S. He has performed volunteer Eye Surgeries in Haiti. He has taught young Eye Surgeons in China, Japan, Thailand, the Philippines, Kenya and South Africa.
Maria Husain, M.D.
Dr. Husain is an comprehensive Ophthalmologist, who is also an experienced LASIK and Cataract surgeon. She comes to LaserCare Eye Center after working in private practice in San Antonio.
Dr. Husain obtained her undergraduate degree from the University of South Florida in Tampa, Florida. She graduated Magna Cum Laude. During her time in college, she did an international exchange program at the University of Aberdeen in Scotland. She completed her M.D. degree at the University of South Florida College of Medicine in Tampa. She served as President of her Medical School Class. Her Medical internship and Ophthalmology residency were completed at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio.
She provides a wide range of Eye care services including Comprehensive Eye exams, Cataract surgery, Intravitreal injections for Macular Degeneration and Diabetic Retinopathy, Laser treatments for Glaucoma and Diabetes and Pterygium surgery. She believes in presenting eye findings in an understandable manner, so patients can be their own best advocates.
Dr. Husain is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the Texas Medical Association and the American Medical Association. In addition to publishing book chapters on many eye-related topics, she has also presented her research at academic meetings.
Dr Husain was born in Chicago, Illinois and grew up in Tarpon Springs, Floria. She has lived in Texas with her husband and son since 2010. She enjoys travel and art. She moved from San Antonio to be closer to her family. In her free time, she enjoys travelling, reading and spending time with her family.
